Location: The Windmill Centre, Torquay, TQ2 7QR
Hours: Weekly Tuesday’s 3.45-6.45, Holiday sessions and overtime/cover
Salary: £13/hr
Closing Date: 23rd  July 2025

“We want someone who’s funny, kind, chilled – and listens to us.”

We’re a group of young people who’ve helped design this role because we know what kind of support really makes a difference. We want someone we can trust, be ourselves around, and build a real connection with.

This job isn’t just about running activities (though we like cooking, sport, art and all that). It’s also about creating a space where we can talk about what matters, feel heard, and work together to make things better, for ourselves and other young people.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can have a laugh and join in, but knows when to listen

  • Doesn’t judge people and treats everyone with respect

  • Is confident, but calm and real

  • Can support with creative, active or chilled sessions

  • Wants to help us build something that actually works for young people

You don’t have to have all the answers, just be open, kind, and up for working with us.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Hanging out with us, building real relationships

  • Helping run sessions we enjoy (sports, cooking, creative stuff, chill spaces)

  • Supporting us to speak up and share our ideas

  • Making sure everyone feels safe, included and respected

  • Helping us create positive change in the ways that work for us

If you’ve worked with young people before, cool. If not, but you’ve got the vibe and are willing to learn, we’re open to that.

We’ll also be involved in interviews, so you’ll be meeting us early on.

If this sounds like you, apply now. We’re ready to work with someone who’s ready to work with us.

To Apply:
Just send us something that tells us who you are, what you care about, and why you want to work with us, that could be a video, a letter, an audio message, or anything else that feels right to you.

No CV needed - we’re more interested in your values, energy, and experience than your formatting skills!

  • Tuesdays: 4:15pm – 6:15pm

  • Thursdays: 6:30pm – 8:30pm

We are committed to supporting and empowering the community, through meaningful engagement and accessible opportunities.

About the Role:

This role is all about supporting young people, not just by facilitating fun sessions, but by building trust, listening, and helping create space where real conversations and change can happen.

Young people helped shape this job, and they’ll be involved in the recruitment process too.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build positive relationships with young people and create a relaxed, welcoming environment

  • Support and co-run activities based on young people’s interests (e.g. sports, food, arts, wellbeing)

  • Encourage young people to share their views and ideas, and help create ways for them to be heard

  • Work alongside young people in group sessions and informal conversations

  • Be aware of what’s going on in young people’s lives and offer the right kind of support

  • Keep everyone safe by following safeguarding and wellbeing procedures

  • Work with other team members and partners to support young people’s ideas and contributions

Who You Are:

  • Kind, approachable and able to relate to young people.

  • Calm and confident.

  • Someone who brings humour, creativity and openness to your work

  • A good listener who understands the importance of trust

  • Willing to learn, including safeguarding and youth participation approaches

  • Flexible, things change quickly and you’ll need to go with the flow

Nice to have (but not essential):

  • Experience working with young people

  • Skills or hobbies you can share, like music, sports, art, or cooking

  • Understanding of challenges young people face today

  • Experience with group work, mentoring, or community projects

What matters most is that you’re someone we can trust, who shows up, sticks around, and respects us for who we are.
